Fuzzy software fungi growing from a piece of wood. Like a puppy's ear to touch, very soft, flexible and fuzzy on top, underside smooth like skin.

Just suggested a random species to put this one back in fungi :). Perhaps the taxa Heino is after needs to be added?

Sorry, must've been some weird autocorrect thing happen here. I was trying to suggest Auricularia sp. . I am hoping someone with the appropriate permissions can add it.
