This lichen is abundant in this locality, both on living and dead wood, predominantly attached to bark. Its string-like structure is distinctive.
Again as with all my ‘shade cloth canopy’ * lichen sightings, I know too little to be clear I am not conflating species whether within or across sightings. The other sightings relevant to that comment are: 4647881, 4647883, 4647896, 4647907 (this one), 4647914 & 4647961. There may be others added later as I learn to distinguish better. They will all mention the ‘shade cloth canopy’ if that’s where they’re growing.
* The shade cloth canopy itself collapsed a few years ago and a substantial amount of leaf litter has accumulated in the depression formed in the top, with several ferns & other plants colonizing the underside, rooting deep into the leaf litter, whilst the lichens and to some extent, mosses are mostly on the more exposed areas, where there is less/no leaf litter.
