Another shade cloth canopy inhabitant, this moss is similar to those reported at sightings 4649572 & 4649599, in its rosette-type shape at the top. It is however darker, and assuming these photos are all of the same species, taller (possibly 5 mm). It is even posible (see 3rd photo) that this is what morphs into the black hairy ‘lichen’ described at sighting 4647896?
Again as with all my ‘shade cloth canopy’ * moss sightings, I know little about mosses (or lichens!), so there is high risk that I’m conflating species whether within or across sightings. The other sightings relevant to that comment are: 4649587, 4649598, 4649605, 4649608. 4649625, 4649636, 4649639 & 4649653 (this one).
* The shade cloth canopy itself collapsed a few years ago and a substantial amount of leaf litter has accumulated in the depression formed in the top, with several ferns & other plants colonizing the underside, rooting deep into the leaf litter, whilst the lichens and to some extent, mosses are mostly on the more exposed areas, where there is less/no leaf litter.
