Known to me as a Forest Red Gum, this tree, like the ones at Sightings 4662183 & 4662185 , look like life has been a major struggle (photo 2). But having just taken photos of this tree, some 5 months later (photo 1), it may be that the extremely depleted look of the foliage may be a seasonal (Winter) adaptation. (all the photos taken for sightings 4662183 & 4662185 were taken on the same day as the 2nd photo here). Even photo 1 looks sparse, but thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve seen any fuller canopy on this sort of tree, unlike several other Gums, with vast thick canopies relative to the height & width of their trunks. Comments on this would be appreciated as I might need to update the earlier sightings as no longer “poor condition / unhealthy” as I’ve interpreted them till now. Photos 3 & 4 show the trunk base, and mid-section, respectively. As can be seen, the smooth, almost white,bark comes away in strips and the base bark is distinctly rougher in texture than all the rest of the tree. (Photos 2, 3 & 4 were all taken late October, 5 months before photo’s photos 1 & 5).
