User's notes

This young fig germinated in leaf litter trapped by an old shade cloth canopy which has become host to all manner of life forms. * In 3 months, it has at least tripled in size (photo 4), since photos 1, 2 & 3 were taken in early January. Time this whole thing got attached to a tree somewhere! * The shade cloth canopy itself collapsed a few years ago and a substantial amount of leaf litter has accumulated in the depression formed in the top, with several ferns & other plants colonizing the underside, rooting deep into the leaf litter. Mosses and Lichens are also prolific here.

I suspect F rubiginosa but hard to verify with these images. Thank you for the info, though. 😀

Please note the apparent hairless-ness, clearly at least not rusty hairy on the under-sides of the leaves and on the stems including the new growth,
aka Flora of NSW online PlantNet botanical key, quotation: "Leaves green and glabrous on both surfaces" –more or less shown in these photographs.

And the growing tip buds with their notably long stipules – apparently well longer than 10 mm .

Please do these stipules have hairs or not ?

Still, I am considering the possibility of exotic fig species candidates looking at these photographs a few times,
–such as from parks or gardens somewhere within bird flight distance.

And of course the more important hopeful, and likely, candidates of:
• _Ficus rubiginosa_ forma _glabrescens_ or
• _Ficus obliqua_ var. _petiolaris_
.

In the future some dimensions of this growing plant's key foliage parts may well clarify more which species.
.
